A word from the DRAC board president:
DRAC Members present and recent past,
This letter is a sort of plea that I write not only as a member of Decorah Regional Arts Council for a number of years but more so as a recent member and president of an organization that is able to focus on the arts as a way to creatively , intellectually and emotionally engage the Decorah Community/Region.
The focus of the past three years has been to rebuild DRAC( a special thanks to Margaret Baird who kept it alive for many years!) and refocus its energy and time and resources on growing a community organization that could and would continue to evolve into this new century. We started with an all out effort creating two major annual events and several committees with definitions and guidelines to help groups begin their contributions to the overall mission of DRAC.
Most of the members of the board have now contributed 2-3 years of very hard work and devotion. The summer solstice ART WALK was brought back, a new spring arts event for the entire creative community, ARTS ALIVE ,has now established a great reputation and Barn Quilts are on the way! This year we will offer mini grants to a handful of “young” artists and continue involving the county in the Barn Quilts endeavor.
My PLEA is this: We need your help and support. The current board has been pretty busy for 2-3 years, several members will not be returning and so others are needed to step in. I think the board is especially interested in hearing from the younger members of the community….their ideas, their energy and dynamic sway over activities would be a welcome infusion into the activities of DRAC..
The value of the arts community cannot be overstated. Even so, I am afraid that if more individuals do not contribute their time, expertise, willingness, and sheer energy, we may lose the momentum. Will you please consider helping?
The Annual meeting for members both old and new and the board election is Thursday Sept 10 at 7 pm.
